Blog time!
It’s been so long that I forgot the webpage to log into my site. Now that I’ve remembered, I can write about some stuff. moron drivers, and something I’ve forgotten about already.
moron drivers
If you are unfortunate enough to have to drive up or down a mountain on a traffic day, please adhere to these simple common courtesty driving etiquettes.
1. Try your best to drive the speed limit, not 15 mph under. You might be unintentionally holding up traffic because you’re not…
2. USING YOUR MIRRORS. If you see a car behind you, and it’s been behind you for a while, it means you should…
3. USE THE TURNOUTS. USE OPEN SHOULDERS TO LET PEOPLE PASS. Pull over damn it! Chances are there is more than one car behind you and they’re all having to drive 15 mph slower because of your slow driving. There is nothing wrong, shameful, or bad about pulling over. It’s a nice driving courtesy. Another driving courtesy is…
4. DON’T SPEED UP IN THE PASSING LANE. EVERYONE does this, and I don’t know if they mean to or not, but it makes the passing car work a lot harder to pass your slow ass because you’re actually speeding up. Let people pass you! This also correlates to
5. Not turning on a main road if you see a car coming, and you know you’re going to be driving slow! This just holds up more traffic.
I know you all know what I’m talking about because you’ve all seen it. You’re driving up the mountain and there’s no one in the oncoming traffic lane. Then all of a sudden you see a moron driver with 20 cars following it. You think to yourself, man, that sucks for all those cars stuck behind that slow driver.
Anyways, I think the cause of all the traffic problems is that drivers are unaware of their surroundings. So please try using your mirrors more! You might even see the cop driving behind you that’s gonna pull you over in 5 min!
Here is some driving etiquette I picked up from European driving that I find very courteous and efficient.
- Drive in the fast lane (far left lane) ONLY to pass. After you’ve passed, move back over to the right lane(s). Italian police actually give out tickets to drivers who cruise in the fast lane too long.
- High beaming people is not rude, it’s just to wake you up from sleeping while driving. Wake up and use your mirrors damn it.
- Using your left signal while passing on the left lets the person know behind you that you are just in the fast lane to pass. You’ll be getting out of it right after you pass the car immediately to your right.
U.S. driving doesn’t really understand this, so if you do any of the above people might look at you weird, or might be so kind as to give you the finger and shout something profane. Oh well, you should say. At least you’re trying to make driving more efficient and safer. I applaud you.
Here’s a picture of the sunset driving down from Spooner. THE BEST view driving into Tahoe I’ve found thus far. I always try to time my return into Tahoe around sunset time, and this night it was PERFECT. Enjoy.
